I Never Thought I Would

I used to try to be "clever" when writing lyrics, but now that I am actually singing these songs I have found myself using a much more candid approach. I think the lyrics for this particular song are fairly self explanatory, but in a nutshell, it's about asking for help when things are not so good, and being opened enough to receive it.

Lyrics

I thought if I moved far away no darkness would remain
But there’s no running from myself, it comes back every day
How long does it take for the noise to fade and disappear?
How long should I have to believe that it won’t stay the same?

I never thought I would but on that day I knelt and prayed
I put my pride away and offered all I had to share
I want to see the morning light, the sun that wakes the resting land
I want to feel the morning breeze, the wind that heals the crying mind

Far above me I see a ray of hope and light and bliss
As I come closer I can see it might be inside me
The very thought that dragged me down now lifts me up and carries me out
Out of the depth now I can see how beautiful you are

I never thought I would but on that day I knelt and prayed
I put my pride away and offered all I had to share
I want to see the morning light, the sun that wakes the resting land
I want to feel the morning breeze, the wind that heals the crying mind

The caress of a voice is whispering to me words I have long forgotten
Memories of a smile brings relief to the heart that closed so long ago
The shadow from inside that once I tried to hide is rushing out of me
These words I took for lies are lighting up the world and leaving me renewed

All the fear that I thought would last
All the hope that I thought would fade
All the dreams that I thought were lies
All the senses that I thought would die

All the days that I spent in doubt
All the pain that I thought was real
All the tears that I shed in fear
All the time that I thought was lost

Now forgotten
Long ago behind me
