Through The Veil

This song started from a personal experience, when I had reached some sort of stability and was reasonably happy with where I was - or so I thought. Then I discovered there was much more to life - a lot more! As I wrote the lyrics it turned into more of a fiction about someone living in a seemingly perfect world, and discovering that his satisfaction about life was not so much real happiness as being "anesthetized".

Lyrics

I had reached a tranquility, a place of joy and rest
Thought I could not be happier, resting in the sun
I had attained prosperity, wealth and perfect health
I could have spent eternity living in this world

I enjoyed a reality safe and free of pain
Where pleasures last infinitely and guilt is never felt
But behind this serenity, hidden out of sight
A feeling of uncertainty grew inside of me

And then you came and you told me there was better
That the pain I could not see would disappear
And through the veil you told me there was even better
That there was more than what my eyes would let me see
(There’s so much to be done)

I was free of necessities, roaming as a bird
Contemplating my liberty, flowing in the wind
Yet behind all the harmony laid a bitter taste
A feeling in the heart of me that I’m not complete yet

And then you came and you told me there was better
And the pain I could not see just disappeared
Through the veil I heard you tell me there was better
That there was more than what my eyes would let me see
(There’s so much to be done)
